Online Entry Form

This year we are holding our annual fundraiser at the amazing Erickson Aircraft Collection Museum, and for this special event we invite you to submit a piece of art inpsired by flight. Flight has taken man's dreams and imagination since he has looked to the sky. Let your imagination fly from nature, man-made or myth to fantasy. Our definition is broad... the sky is the limit.

MY VOICE : Discoveries and Beliefs

I am an architect. My architecture explores space and symbology, translating these components into built form that has meaning and content—and, if successful, tells stories about the values and beliefs of the people for which I build. Creating architecture is not only making containers for activity, but is a way for a People to speak to future generations—creating places that reflect the values of a time and leaving messages for those that follow.

My work in bronze began as a continuation of my exploration in form that I have experienced in creating architecture—not imposed form, but imagining how natural processes might sculpt the earth to reveal images and stories that can be discovered. As with architecture, I have learned that the power of a piece of sculpture lies in its ability to engage—enabling the visitor to enter into a dialog with the piece, seeking meaning that transcends the first impression. As my explorations have evolved, I have moved from abstraction to more realism while empowering each work with a “soul” that tells a story of why it is what it is.

These sculptures and accompanying narratives embody the discoveries and beliefs that have given form to my life. The medium of bronze has become my way of storytelling—my way of passing on learned values and an ethos of living to those that will follow. This is MY VOICE.

Pat Boas & Jon Raymond

Portland 2016 Biennial

Opening Reception Saturday, July 16th, 2-4pm

Art Adventure Gallery is pleased to host an exhibition of works by PAT BOAS & JON RAYMOND, curated by Michelle Grabner, in conjunction with the Portland 2016 Biennial of Contemporary Art presented by Disjecta Contemporary Art Center. Extensive travel across Oregon and well over a hundred studio visits were part of Michelle Grabner’s process for curating this Biennial project. The resulting exhibitions provide what Grabner describes as: “a curatorial index that celebrates the broad spectrum of art-making in Oregon and illuminates the research and selection process.”

PAT BOAS makes drawings, paintings, prints and digital projects about the activity of reading. Boas’s work has been shown at the Portland Art Museum, the Art Gym, and Elizabeth Leach Gallery in Portland; the Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Fe; the Boise Art Museum; the Salt Lake Art Center; the Nicolaysen Museum in Casper, WY; the Center on Contemporary Art in Seattle and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Boas is an associate professor and Director of the School of Art + Design at Portland State University.

JON RAYMOND The Community is a collection of twenty years’ worth of reviews, essays, interviews, and profiles by Portland-based novelist and screenwriter Jon Raymond offering a time-lapse portrait of a medium-sized city’s artistic scene. By turns an ironic, moody, and bemused meditation on the abiding character of the author’s hometown, The Community stands as a significant addition to a small collection of public documents addressing the history and politics of art in the Northwest.
